Leon de Vreede

Leon de Vreede (MCIP, LPP) is the Senior Policy & Program Planner for the Town of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, where he manages policy and planning for the award-winning Energize Bridgewater program and provides support to other sustainability and climate change initiatives.  Under Leon’s leadership, Bridgewater’s programs have been recognized for excellence through awards by organizations including the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities, Efficiency Nova Scotia, and GLOBE.  He is one of Nova Scotia’s leading experts in home energy upgrade programs involving Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing, and in 2019 he led the team that brought home a $5 million Smart Cities Challenge grant for Bridgewater’s innovative proposal to develop an Energy Poverty Reduction Program.

Originally from The Netherlands, Leon has been proud to call Nova Scotia home since 1999, when he came here to study environmental science at Acadia University.   In 2015 he was an inaugural recipient of the provincial Clean Climate Leader Award.
